Full description
We pick you up in central Rome in an air-conditioned mini-bus, the most comfortable way to navigate the jaw-dropping cliff drive that awaits us. When we arrive in Pompeii, we’ll skip the lines and be met by one of our expert, English-speaking guides who have dedicated their lives to studying Pompeii. As they walk you through the shops, temples, public baths, and houses that made up the thriving city, they’ll recount the fascinating stories of life in the ancient city; and how it was decimated by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. The tour will also visit the famous plaster death casts of unfortunate people caught in the eruption and, if appropriate for the group, an ancient brothel. After Pompeii, it’s back into the bus for one of the most unforgettable drives of your life down the hairpin turns and panoramic vistas of the Amalfi Coast. It won’t take long for you to see why this is considered Italy’s most scenic drive. You'll stop in Positano, a pastel-colored resort town perched on the cliffs that has inspired legendary writers such as Shelley, Goethe, and Steinbeck. After an introduction from your guide, with some tips on where to eat lunch and shop, you’ll have free time to do as you please.

  • This tour is in English.
  • This is a walking tour. Guests should be able to walk at a moderate pace without difficulty.
  • The town you visit will depend on the season and weather - Positano, Amalfi (town), or Sorrento.
  • We encourage a swim on the beach in Positano during your free time should the weather be nice. If you are so inclined, please bring a bathing suit and towel.
  • Should any part of this tour be closed, we may need to make modifications to the itinerary.
  • During low season (November - March) most businesses including restaurants in Positano close, making the town a rather dull visit. During this time, we visit the town of Amalfi or Sorrento where ample choices for lunch and shopping abound.

We did Pompei, Amalfi, Sorrento! Guide from Rome, Francesco was on the quieter side but friendly & professional! The driver was a great, very smooth ride on those spiral rides. The Pompei guide, Serena, was great. She made it a great & fun learning experience for all, funny & approachable. The driver kept the van warm. There were charging sockets for each seat, and the stops were reasonably timed. Both Francesco & Serena offered to take pictures of each party together. All in all, I'd say it was totally worth it. I had seen Walks of Italy had high ratings, I must say they totally deserve it. Very organized, efficient, and respectful program & service by all 3 people involved: driver, van guide, and Pompei guide. Serena is pictured, an amazing guide, she deserves a bonus!

Federico was an excellent tour guide! Extremely knowledgeable in the history of Italy. We were convinced he must be a History professor. He gave facts and told stories throughout all the areas we traveled, giving us an understanding of the people and different cultures (food, languages, battles, etc) that came together to form what is present day Italy. Our guide in Pompeii, Ilaria, was excellent as well. As an archaeologist who worked at the site, she was able to give us so many details in a day of the life of a Pompeiian. We felt like we were transported back in time. We only wish it could have been a little longer. Sorrento was beautiful as well. Federico gave excellent dining references. The pizza at Ristorante Pizzeria Tasso did not disappoint! Again, 2 hours was not enough time to dine & explore, but necessary to make the 3.5-4 hour drive back to Rome. Roberto did a great job of getting us back and forth safely. Highly recommend Federico and TakeWalks tour. Amazing experience!

At this time of year we didn't go to the Amalfi Coast, because everything is closed there, so we went to Sorrento, which is a beautiful region. But certainly the highlight of the tour is Pompeii, which we were guided by an archaeologist who explained details of the civilization and showed the excavations, engravings, houses, shops, streets... All of this with Mount Vesuvius
