Full description
Meet your guide on Piazza della Minerva in the heart of Rome to enter the best-preserved monument of Ancient Rome. Marvel at one of the most fabled temples of the Roman Empire. Get a detailed history of the Pantheon from your guide, who will point out ground-breaking features, such as the coffered concrete dome. Take a look at the oculus in the center of the dome, allowing natural light to illuminate the building while lightening the structural load. Initially a temple, the Pantheon is now one of the most spectacular churches in Rome and acts as the mausoleum to the tombs of Raphael, King Victor Emmanuel II and Queen Margherita among others. Then, make your way to the Basilica of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva behind the Pantheon and explore the church where the popes of the Florentine Medici family were buried. Admire the church interior, covered in artworks by Michelangelo.

Very good tour.

Our guide was very good and had a lot of information. I enjoyed that she had photos of historic sites as they originally were compared to today. The visuals really helped. Could I suggest that they have a flag? We had a very small group but finding her at the meeting point was not easy. Also, could they maybe wear something that says the name of the tour? Just a thought for foreigners who may not have been as bold as we were to ask people if they were guides.

Worth the money

We enjoyed this and got more out of the church than we would have alone. Ditto for the Pantheon. While this is a small tour, and not as impressive as some of the other, longer ones- it is worth doing. I think a lot will depend on the guide you get. Sometimes it was hard to hear ours. But, still, a worthwhile tour and we are glad we did it.
