The trip to Tivoli, including visits to Villa Del Este and Hadrian's villa, was interesting. It offered a very brief opportunity to admire the architecture and in particular the beautiful gardens of Villa Del Este and the grandiose ruins of Hadrian's villa. The tour was guided by two guides with two polar opposed approaches: David, a gentle, easy going, caring and knowledgable person. The other guide (I don't remember his name) was an impatient and vulgar person. He was mainly interested in adhering to the tour's time table and managed to spoil the tour. Unfortunately, on the way back to Rome the bus broke down. This can happen, although I would expect the organizers of the tour that only perfectly maintained vehicles will be used. They obviously failed here. In addition, the supply of a replacement bus was handled scandalously. For over an hour and a half, we were left stranded, at an obsolete gas station waiting for the replacement bus.

It was a good tour but felt very rushed. I was less interested in Hadrian's villa - it was Villa d'este which was the highlight for me, so more time there would have been great. However, the tour still overran by around an hour, which was a bit disappointing as I had other plans for the evening.

This was a great tour, guides knowledgeable and the two sights visited were both excellent. The fountains at villa deste were really beautiful. Only negative - was not prepared for the amount of steps at villa deste or the uphill walk at Adrian's villa. Would have been more prepared and worn better shoes if advised. But otherwise a beautiful day
