What to Expect
Take a full-day tour of Tuscany and Lazio and discover the region through the history of the Etruscans, a pre-Roman civilization that occupied the area from the 9th century BC.

The 8-hour tour has been especially designed for guests who have already seen the famous attractions of Rome, and are looking for an exceptional excursion to the Italian countryside. Departing from central Rome accommodations, or the Civitavecchia Cruise Ship Terminal, drive for approximately 1 hour through valleys and cypress-studded hills.

On the way to the town of Tuscania, stop at the Tuscia Olive Oil Factory to sample some of their delicious produce. Continue to the stunning hillside village of Ceri, built on top of a fortified plateau of tufo. Soak up the magical atmosphere from a typical Italian trattoria, where you can enjoy a dish of pappardelle pasta with wild boar meatballs.

Drive to Tuscania, an ancient town with origins that can be traced back to the Bronze Age. A significant number of settlements date back to the Etruscan period, as witnessed by the numerous necropolises in the area. With the rise of the Roman dominion in central Italy, most of the Etruscan settlements disappeared. But Tuscania resisted, as one of the most important cities and thanks to its advanced architectural development.

Enjoy beautiful views from the La Torre di Lavello Restaurant, before visiting the two most important churches in the town center. San Pietro, with its remarkable façade, stunning rose-window, and crypt, and Santa Maria Maggiore, with its three finely decorated portals, represent a temporary architectural passage of the Romanic style. With a population of 8,000, Tuscania’s historical town center boasts characteristic 4th and 5th-century architecture, enriched by 52 churches and numerous fountains.

End this amazing day tour at the necropolises of Cerveteri and Banditaccia. Walk into the dark city of death, carved into the tufo rock 2,500 years ago, as your guide explains the significance of the Etruscan tombs and leads you to some of the beautiful subterranean frescoes.
