Choosing the best time to go to Rome

Best time for outdoors lovers

Mid-March to early May are among the best months to visit Rome for outdoor activities. Life begins to bloom in the city in early spring, but you’ll still beat the crowds of the tourist season.

Best time for people on a budget

If you’re visiting the Eternal City on a budget, it’s worth visiting during winter. You’ll have to compromise on the weather, but you’ll escape the peak tourist season’s crowds (and price hikes).

Best time for sightseeing

If you want to see Rome’s most famous sights, it’s best to visit during spring and fall. You’ll enjoy primarily dry and mild conditions, and crowds will be much thinner than during July and August.

Rome throughout the seasons

Spring in Rome

March to May

Spring in Rome is a beautiful time to visit, as the trees and flowers bloom and the city celebrates the iconic Ides of March. With decreasing rainfall and increasing hours of sunshine, you can expect mild and mostly dry conditions perfect for sightseeing.

Summer in Rome

June to August

Summer is Rome’s peak tourist season. The weather will be hot, with highs of 89.6 F (32 C). While there may be better times to visit for sightseeing, plenty of concerts and festivals, such as the famous Lungo il Tevere, occur in the city throughout June, July, and August.

Fall in Rome

September to November

Fall in Rome is among the best times to visit, with mild, mainly dry weather and fewer crowds than in summer. Post-summer is celebrated as Ottobrata Romana. Dating back to the tradition of grape harvesting when many Romans would celebrate in local vineyards, the spirit remains alive with local festivities involving music and art exhibitions.

Winter in Rome

December to February

Winter in Rome is relatively cold, with temperatures between 37.4 F and 57.2 F (3 C and 14 C) and heavy rainfall. Christmas in Rome is a magical experience with festive markets, Nativity scenes, and many cultural and religious celebrations.

Our guide Nicolo and driver Christian were amazing. They were super helpful, and they ensured everything went smoothly during our day trip. I can’t thank them enough, particularly our guide who helped us figure out how to see everything we wanted see in Naples within a very short window of time. The bus is very comfortable and honestly, I can’t imagine doing a day trip to Pompeii and Naples from Rome without a personalized tour that handles the transportation. Excellent value for the price. I highly recommend it!

We had an enjoyable experience. Both the tour guide (Sonyia) and the driver were excellent and understood our preferences, such as making stops for family photographs and providing food during the excursion.

Babara and Antinio were amazing, Babara made you feel happy and settled and was full of amazing information, she really made the experience truly spectacular
