Full description
Take a 20-minute ride on a public bus to reach the Catacombs, near beautiful historic Appian Way. Once there, enjoy a guided tour with an expert local guide. Hear about how the oldest nuclei of the Roman Catacombs date back to the end of the second century and how the catacombs were built underground with tunnels on various levels to solve the spacial problems. Visit St. John in Lateran Basilica and explore all its points of interest in around 2 hours with a multilingual audio guide system. Begin by visiting the Basilica with the cloister and the Treasure Museum, then proceed outside the church to the Baptistery. You can then complete your tour by visiting the building of the Holy Stairs, located on the right of the basilica, and admire the original private papal chapel of the Sancta Sanctorum. If you only have one hour, you can visit the basilica and its cloister first, followed by the Holy Stairs and Sancta Sanctorum.

The two sites are beautiful. But the actual times are not reported in the notes. Between the basilica and the catacombs there are about 30 minutes by bus or 1 hour on foot. A day earlier we received an email from the Vatican office, indicating that the visit to the catacombs was booked for 2:00 pm. Therefore, when you book it is to be taken into account, in the morning in the basilica and the afternoon at the catacombs.

Other than making the initial connection, everything was very good. It would be helpful to better identify the office in which to pick up tickets and get oriented. We were at St. John Lateran at the requested time, but didn’t get started on our tour for about 30 minutes waiting in line and for instructions and help from the tour office, which was not part of Get Your Guide Brother Obert, our guide for the catacombs, was a joy

Over before you know it.

Didn't really know what to expect with the churches at St John and probably didn't need to to this tour as the churches are free with the exception of the santum. Getting out to the catacombs was easy enough by bus, but they do not follow the google maps schedule. Tour is an hour and only goes through 800m to 900m of the 21 km catacombs. Tour guide Eric was very good. Our group was too big though.
