Full description

Enjoy entry to one of Rome’s most popular museums with a ticket to Borghese Gallery, located in the former Villa Borghese Pinciana. Tickets for the museum are limited and often sell out. Marvel at the collection that has been described as the “Queen of all Private Art Collections”. Witness one of the most interesting, charming, elegant, and compact art museums in Rome, the collection is neither chronologically arranged, nor very ordinate.

Instead, it is a personal, lovingly matched collection that reveals the personalities and tastes of 2 people: Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the greatest of the Baroque artists; and Scipione Cardinal Borghese, the greatest art collector, who initiated the Roman Baroque. Particular highlights include the "Caravaggio Room," where you can see paintings like "David with the Head of Goliath." Admire works by Raphael, such as "The Deposition and Lady with a Unicorn," along with sculptures by Bernini, such as his "Apollo and Daphne" and "David." Take a stroll around the beautiful gardens of the Villa Borghese, and take in the view over Piazza del Popolo.

This was a great guided tour with historical commentary by the guide, Marco. Time slots are limited to two hours, so another visit would be needed to see everything in more detail, but this was a great introduction and the history was fun to hear and brought the art to life.

Because the museum limits the # of guests, the rooms were not very crowded and we were able to spend time listening to our guide explain the important works. He was very knowledgeable and funny at times. He included us in his commentary by asking us our names and started some of his commentary with a little light-hearted quiz.

Really enjoyed our trip to the Borghese Gallery! Tour guide extremely knowledgeable. Was super nice, even when another person on the tour kept challenging her knowledge. I loved the description and explanations about the art work and would highly recommend. It was a last minute choice and so glad we did it!
