we just hired bikes - no guide - it's a straight roman road so almost impossible to get lost! we got e MTB which were OK, well maintained but a little rigid. our first time on bikes though so that was a revelation. staff at the infopoint and bike hire were friendly. we took an easy bus ride up to the hire point the road is well maintained and popular with other cyclists and pedestrians. there are some refreshment stops at the beginning but I'd advise a picnic suitable for families, couples, singles
