The Rio Experience that stays with you

We experienced the Rochinha Favela Tour the day after we did the Corcovado/Sugar Loaf tour which provided beautiful views of the city of Rio. This Rochinha Favela tour, on the other hand, provided us with beautiful views of the people of Rio. Our guide, Albierto, brought us (along with his passionate politics and love of his neighborhood) into contact with another side of Rio. He was energetic and well-organized, and we felt very safe as we followed him on a winding route through the Favela. Seeing the daily reality of how thousands live and thrive in a very different environment than my own has caused me to reflect on life and what is truly important much more than beautiful scenic vistas have ever done. If you're interested in that sort of travel, I highly recommend this tour!
