Overview
Explore the favelas of Cantagalo, Pavão, and Pavãozinho in Rio de Janeiro on this 4-hour tour. Meet the local residents and learn about the architecture, graffiti, infrastructure, and development work in the favelas.
What to Expect
On this 4-hour tour you will explore the favelas in Rio de Janeiro. The elevator at one of the metro exits in Ipanema will take you right into the heart of the favelas of Cantagalo, Pavão, and Pavãozinho.

You will visit an open-air graffiti art gallery called Project Casa Telas, created by the Museu de Favela with the support of the national institute of museums as a means of integrating social classes through culture. Along the graffiti walls you will get to know the history of the communities and get an understanding of the struggle and suffering of the residents in the past.

You will also visit the official school and unofficial community center where classes in sportive and creative activities take place on a daily basis. A labyrinth of stairs and alleyways takes you to the other side of the communities for a privileged view over Copacabana, and on the way down you will see more graffiti and insights into favela life.

During this tour you will get to know the history and habits of the residents of the communities, the present changes that are happening, the macro-political aspect of favelas, and the social paradox that exists in the city. You will also be able to get an understanding of Cariocan society.
