Pedra da Gávea is no doubt one of Rio's most amazing hiking tours, just a short trip from the city. Go for a climb up this impressive monolith, the world's largest coastal granite formation, to its majestic summit for incredible views in all directions.
What to Expect
The Pedra da Gávea hiking tour is one of the Rio de Janeiro region's most exciting and rewarding outdoor experiences. Challenge yourself to climb up this massive stone formation along the Atlantic coast, just a short trip away from the heart of the city of Rio.
The summit of Pedra de Gávea stands at 842 meters (2,763 ft) above sea level. The ascent takes around two-and-a-half hours and, once close to the top, you will probably start to feel butterflies in your stomach as you take in the majestic views in all directions.
Besides a steep but short hand-climbing section (15m/49ft) and a few walks on the edge of precipices, there is nothing to fear; it’s all perfectly safe and anyone can do it.
From up above at the summit of Pedra de Gávea, take in the simply remarkable views of Tijuca Forest, Pedra Bonita, Rocinha favela (one of the world’s largest ghettos), São Conrado beach, Cristo Redentor, Sugar Loaf, Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon and Barra da Tijuca. Experience one of the true wonders of Brazil's wonderful nature.
