Begin the tour at the Municipal Theatre on the square Cinelândia, visit the Cathedral de São Sebastião, then walk towards Lapa along the Rua do Lavradio, known for its many antique shops. Admire the graffiti murals as you stroll along, and visit the colorful tile stairs by famed artist Selaron. Listen to the history of Rio de Janeiro as you view sights such as the Municipal Thatre, the National Library, the museum of Beaux Arts, the town hall, the Arcos da Lapa, an 16th century aqueduct, and the convent of the Carmelites on the street taking you upwards to Santa Teresa.
Atop the hill in the charming neighborhood of Santa Teresa, visit the Cultural Center Parque das Ruínas to admire the panorama of Rio stretching below.
Ending the walking tour at the Largo do Curvelo, the first station of the traditional cable car in Santa Teresa. If you book the morning tour, it is possible to take the cable car back down to the city.
