After a tiring day spent pounding the streets of Riga Old Town the Riga Sightseeing Tour by Canal Boat was a pleasant and relaxing diversion. The circular tour, in a quiet and smartly turned out vintage wooden boat, takes just under an hour The crusie begins with views of grassy tree-lined banks but after emerging from a short tunnel the scene changes as the boat passes the huge Riga Central Market buildings before entering the wide Daugava river. The journery then continues under road and railway bridges with panoramic views of the Riga waterfront before re-entering the canal further downstream. The boat winds its way through paecful leafy parks again before returning to the peir where the crusie began. There was no guide, just a recording in English which can difficult to hear, but this didn't spoil our enjoyment.
Had a lovely time getting acquainted with the main sights and story of Riga as well as the beautiful riverside. The audio was quite easily understandable and the boat operator was welcoming and helpful with little tidbits here and there.
