Spend a day hiking the Nature Reserve of "Vidzeme Rocky Seaside,” one of the most beautiful parts of Latvia’s Baltic coast. See ancient monuments, wonderful nature, superb secret beaches and more.
What to Expect
Located in the northeast of Latvia, Vidzeme is one of the country’s 4 historical territories, where natural beauty and ancient civilizations come together in harmony. Enjoy picturesque coastline as you walk its Rocky Seashore, taking in the Vitrupe River and cliffs of Veczemes, Cape Kutkāji and more.
You will be in the company of an expert hiking guide who will point out attractions and describe the landscape as you tour. You will see historical monuments along the shoreline around Vidzeme and impressive sandstone cliffs at Zivtiņas.
One of the most distinctive spots you will pass is Cape Ķurmrags, where waves and ice have brought together large piles of rocks over the years. Set against a steep shore made of sandstone cliffs, you will also observe the Cape Ķurmrags lighthouse.
Get fantastic views of the landscape from the top of Tūja Cliff, and see the brick factory and railroad spur that was installed to transport high-quality bricks. After World War 2, a fish processing plant was opened and a pipe installed that ran across the breakwater into the sea to transport fish from the ships that were docked in the pier.
You will finish your Vidzeme hiking tour at Tūja village, having completed approximately 11 miles (18 kilometers) in about 9 hours.
