Full description

Be collected at your accommodation around 9:00 AM. Then head to your first destination, Filerimos Hill. Here, visit the monastery of Our Lady and the remains of the Ancient Acropolis of Ialyssos, which is one of the three ancient cities of Rhodes island. You can walk along a Golgotha, which is a tree-sheltered pathway with a series of shrines with scenes of the Holy Passion. This footpath leads to an enormous imposing cross, which from the top you can admire the outstanding view of the villages and bright green valleys.  Next, visit the Valley of Butterflies. This is a unique and peaceful ecological setting, which is a true representation of local nature, with narrow rock walkways, lakes decorated by water-lilies, rustic bridges, running waters, waterfalls, and resting places loaded with millions of brown-red butterflies.

Visit the local museum there, and admire the large variety of different species and intricate photographs.

You will return to your accommodation around 2:00 PM.

Although we were there in October and all the butterflies had already disappeared, the tour was worth it. The valley is very scenic, also Filerimos hill had a great view and vibe. However, you should know that you will be driven everywhere but have no guide. You don't get any information on site, since everything is written in Greek. Didn't hurt the trip though. For 20 euros it was a successful trip.

Value for money was okay. First to Filerimos hill. A lot of peacocks await you there. That was the highlight for us, since the rest would have cost 6 euros extra entry. stay an hour. Then 30 minutes to Butterfly Valley. From October no longer recommended because there are no more butterflies there. The entrance fee was only 3 instead of 5 euros. If we had known that earlier, we would not have booked this excursion. Here we had 2 hours. All in all a very nice trip and for the price also in order.

Inexpensive and interesting trip, self-guided to two contrasting places. Filerimos beautiful and so peaceful, we had one hour there. Valley of the Butterflies is nature at its best - truly special experience. Lots of steps, some quite rough but with good handrails. It takes about 50 minutes to reach the delightful cafe at the top, by which time you will definitely have earned a rest! We are late 60s/early 70s and managed the climb OK - but do take sensible shoes and water. You don’t need a sunhat for the walk, since it’s shaded by trees. We had two hours there.
