Full description
Whales are the most mysterious of creatures, and some of the best whale watching in the world is just off the coast of Iceland’s capital, where the ocean currents create excellent viewing conditions. Climb aboard a whale watching boat operated by the only environmentally certified whale watching company in Iceland, and explore the southern part of Faxafloi Bay in the Midnight sun of the summer months. On the 3.5-hour tour you will get up-close to whales such as playful minke, as well as see abundant sea birds, dolphin and harbor porpoise. Whales are seen on more than 95% of summer tours, often surfacing within a few meters from the boats. To ensure that the animals are not disturbed, boats sail at a constant speed towards the whales' habitat. This is part of a sustainability policy, trying to minimize oil use and pollution. Guides have all gone through an extensive training program, based on exclusively developed guiding principles. They will provide valuable information about the wildlife and scenery in an entertaining way. And as a successful whale watching tour is a team effort, the crew work closely with passengers to spot the whales, helping you feel an important part of the experience.

Very professional staff and services. The possibility to wear overalls that provide excellent protection from water and wind is very convenient. In our case, Minke whales have been quite elusive, so don’t expect close encounters. We went out two times, because at the first try we didn’t spot any whale. The day after, a complimentary round was offered and we spotted some Minke whales, quite elusive, as told before (only the dorsal fins could be seen, no water splashes or jumps). Overall, a very well organized excursion, keeping in mind that the the experience can be satisfactory or not, strictly depending by luck.

Simply brilliant! The key for this trip is to accept that whale sightings aren't guaranteed and any you do get are great moments. We saw a few dolphins, a couple of minke whales and then right at the end, a humpback whale which the crew stayed out extra time to locate having had a sighting. Then on the way back to the harbour we enjoyed a magical sunset. We'd have enjoyed the boat ride out to sea even if we'd not seen any whales but we did and they were the icing on the cake. The crew were friendly and informative, you can get food and drink on board - what's not to like about sipping a beer as you sail out under the sun? A highly recommended experience.

We did the midnight whale watching and it was worth the trip. The boat was huge and had a cafe for warm drinks. The top deck was large with views on all sides. I saw people going out on little inflatable boats for a different company/tour earlier that day, and was sick to think of how cold they would be. I was very grateful to have the boat with warmer windproof and comfortable interiors for our trip! It was a windy day for us, so I ended up with a windburn. Dress warm, even in the summer! There wasn't as much wildlife on our tour, but we spent time with a humpback which was neat! The audio wasn't great - so try to get on top of the deck with a good spot early if you want to hear the guide. What I really loved was that they had a photographer who sent photos of the sightings afterward! I was so worried I'd drop my phone in the ocean, so took almost no pictures. But they shared photos afterward, which were excellent! It made the trip really special and was a nice touch.
