Full description
Discover the beauty of volcanic landscapes in the Geldingadalur Valley on this day trip from Reykjavík. Travel by bus to Meradalir Volcano and go for a guided hike to see the new lava fields. Capture photos at locations like Lake Kleifarvatn, Valhnúkamöl Boulder Ridge, and the Gunnuhver Hot Springs. Start with a pickup in Reykjavík before heading on a scenic drive surrounded by breathtaking views. Stop by Lake Kleifarvatn to take in the black sand beach and surrounding mountains. Put on your high-quality hiking gear and set off towards Geldingadalur Valley to see the steaming, cooling lava fields formed by the recent eruption at Merdalir. The volcano erupted for much of August 2022, but has stopped for now. Please note that the hike is of moderate difficulty and takes 1.5-2 hours each way. Sit down to a delectable packed lunch on the hike where you can eat while gazing out over the immense lava fields surrounding the new crater. Drive by the Reykjanes Peninsula, where the volcanos have shaped the area which is covered by soft green lava moss. Continue to the Gunnuhver Hot Springs to breath in steam from the boiling waters. Make your way to the the oldest lighthouse in Iceland at Reykjanes Lighthouse. Admire the cliffs and sea stacks formed by the Atlantic Ocean at the Valhnúkamöl Boulder Ridge. Finally, see the Bridge Between Continents which crosses a rift between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates. Get a picture of you walking across the bridge before returning to Reykjavík.

Great tour and tour guides. Done in Feb 2023 and had got lots of information about Iceland and the south coast area. Dress well, got blown away by gale force winds, hit by hail stones, wet by the waves and dried out by the sun. All in all a great day to get close to nature. Go on go on, you'll love it. And the lunch after the hike was yum thanks to the tour guide who got the local restaurant owner to open the restaurant, one guy on the tour helped in the kitchen (he was a chef!), and the guides served in the restaurant. Teamwork makes the dream work. Thanks for a memorable day.

Although we took this tour mainly for the volcano hike the additional stops along the way and after the hike were a great addition. Our guide was really informative and kept us updated on everything we were seeing. The most amazing part was getting to walk on a lava field less than 12 months old, our guide was able to show us videos and pictures taken whilst it had been erupting. Doing this trip in January did mean that the weather wasn't ideal for all parts of it but we still managed and had a great time

Walking on still smoldering brittle lava fields of the volcano which crumbled under your feet gave it an other worldly experience . The Gunnuhver steam vents where one can disappear in the steam was also awesome ! Guide was informative , charming and entertaining !
