Full description

Step aboard the Puffin Express for a charming bird-watching adventure in Reykjavik. Enjoy a 100% guarantee of puffin sightings, and learn about these and other local birds from an expert guide.

Head out from the Old Harbour of Reykjavik to the surrounding Faxaflói Bay and onto two nearby islands, Lundey and Akurey, covered in small hills and slopes and known for their colorful birdlife. Once arriving at the islands, observe the native birds and picturesque surroundings with the boat's engine turned off. Enjoy seeing puffins as well as other birds, such as northern fulmars, gulls, Arctic terns, and black guillemots. All of this takes place on an old wooden boat, Skúlaskeið, which is fondly referred to as "Old Skuli." It is spacious enough to hold 33 passengers but not too big, in order to ensure that your tour is personal and comfortable.

I really enjoyed the experience. First, being on the ocean was amazing. I love sailing, and the trip to the small island where the puffins live was so enjoyable. The guides were very knowledgeable and friendly and excited about the tour they were giving. That's what makes this tour fun. Getting to see Puffins in the wild from an ocean view was an incredible adventure. It's something I always wanted to do. Glad I went with this tour company.

Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, the boat pilot was skilled, and we saw lots of puffins and other birds. They were very respectful of the animals. I recommend finding the meeting spot well in advance so you aren't scrambling to get there on time. "The Old Harbor" is not where the Harpa building is. It's across the street and down a little from the Reykjavik Art museum, near bus stop #4. There is a huge puffin statue outside the Special Tours office.

This tour is perfect. One hour is just about right to see the birds, and you're not cold for waiting too long. The boat is small but there is plenty of room to move around to see everything. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we saw plenty of birds. The boat gets close enough to the island and they also have binoculars.
