Full description

Set off on a thrilling trip to the currently erupting volcano with a friendly, local guide. Conducted both in the morning and in the evening, this essential tour is easy to fit into the schedule of a busy traveler to Iceland.

This tour begins when you are picked up from your Reykjavik hotel. Greet your experienced guide and the rest of your group.

This area is renowned for its dramatic lava landscapes, with conic volcanoes, fields of jagged basalt, geothermal areas, and geological marvels.

Arrive at the parking area for the hike to the volcano. Your guide will dress you in the necessary equipment before leading you to where one of the world’s most breathtaking sites awaits.

Nothing compares to the majesty of an erupting volcano. Flaming craters and fissures, gleaming rivers of molten rock, and a glowing field of lava make the time you will spend here unforgettable. Be sure to bring a drone or camera to capture this phenomenal event.

After enjoying this incredible site, you’ll head back to Reykjavik with some once-in-a-lifetime memories. Take this opportunity to witness the currently erupting volcano. Update: There is no active Lava Flow at this time, but it is still cool to get close to the old lava flow and feel the powerful volcano heat.

Loved our guide Agnes so much. She’s so sweet and informative and makes sure that everyone is okay and has a good time. The description on the tour should be edited however, as it is a hike to see the previous two eruptions. There is no flowing lava at the moment.

Absolutely fantastic experience, our tour guide Agnes has a great personality and was really fun, and full of really interesting information. We were a group of quick walkers and had some spare time at the end, instead of going back Agnes took us to see Greatnvat lake and Krysuvìk which was great! When I return to Iceland I will be asking Agnes to be our guide! The views on the hike were incredible with lots of photo opportunities, even if the volcano was not erupting when I went it was still well worth the tour. Great experience!

This was so fun! Agnes was a wonderful, enthusiastic guide who kept a large group (about 15 of us) together and informed (and supported one person who struggled with the hike). The views were fantastic, and the hike well worth it. You could theoretically do this hike solo (there is a parking lot, well-marked trail, etc) but it was great to have more context and history from Agnes. First 30 minutes were quite challenging (all uphill), then it leveled out. The winds were intense, make sure you bundle up!
