Full description

Embark on an evening trip to see the Aurora Borealis. Hear fascinating facts about them from your guides, visit the Aurora Museum, and search to see the lights firsthand.

Depart the bright lights of Reykjavík city center to see the dancing lights of the Aurora Borealis. Also known as the “Northern Lights,” it is one of the most spectacular shows during winter months. Head for wherever meteorologists have predicted the lights will be at their best. To get stunning views of the sky you will aim for areas with no artificial light.

Hear explanations of how the Aurora Borealis is caused as a result of the gaseous particles in the earth’s atmosphere colliding with charged particles released from the sun’s atmosphere. Benefit from an itinerary that includes stops for you to go outside and take photographs. The locations visited differ from day to day, but you will head in the direction with the most chance of seeing Mother Nature at work.

As the tour is weather-dependent, and sightings are not guaranteed, you are also invited to join another Northern Lights tour free of charge if the lights don’t appear.  Explore the Northern Lights in the Aurora Museum. The Northern Lights tour includes a complimentary ticket for a self-guided visit to the museum in Reykjavik, valid on the day you join the tour, from the time you receive confirmation that the tour is on.

Really well organised. Our guide was really knowledgable and had been doing the tours a while, it was a clear night and we were so lucky to see the Northern Lights mainly just from a camera shot but it was such a cool experience. It was -15 so it was pretty cold so make sure you’re wrapped up, if you can’t handle the full time outside you can sit back on the bus and the guide will call you back out when there is any possibility of the lights showing more clearly but you’d have to be quick! Hot chocolate was also served which was a nice touch.

Bobbie & Eugene were amazing! Bobbie had such high energy it made it so enjoyable. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because although we saw the Northern lights (faintly) the location we stopped in was less than ideal for photos. Could of been alot better. But nevertheless it was fun and we did see the lights!

We really enjoyed our Northern Lights trip. The bus stop was chaotic when we arrived with hundreds of people waiting for their tours with different operators. Once our operator arrived they did their best to sort us onto buses, but the operator had 3 buses and each driver had a different list of people, so it took about 15 minutes of standing in the cold to work out who should be where. Once on the bus our tour guide was lovely, she shared really informative informative and we saw the Northern Lights within 15 minutes of our trip starting! We saw them again at other stops on the journey and appreciated the hot chocolate under the stars. The Northern Lights don’t look like they do in pictures, they aren’t as bright, but they are still an amazing sight to see if you can.
