Full description
Depart Reykjavík early and head to Langjökull Glacier. Upon arrival, marvel at the 953-square-kilometer land of ice (the second largest glacier in Iceland). You will travel aboard a new bus equipped with computer tablets in each seat for your convenience. Make use of the GPS-sensitive in-bus audio guide (available in English, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Finnish, French, Japanese, Korean, Chinese Mandarin and German), along with a USB charger and free Wi-Fi. Then, get ready to stand on top of a vast ice-cap and descend into the icy netherworld of a glacier. You will journey to the ice cave aboard a huge, specially-modified 8WD truck. Discover a man-made tunnel of ice in a remote area of the glacier at the very heart of Iceland. Listen as your guide explains how global warming has started to impact the glacial environment. Then, go on an amazing journey deep within the glacier, and see and feel the stunning blue-hued ice up-close as it's in constant motion. Until very recently, what lay beneath the surface of Langjökull Glacier was a mystery. Sometimes, with vision and determination, bold ideas can become a reality. The realization of the seemingly crazy notion of boring an ice tunnel deep into the glacier only became possible through the combined efforts of Iceland's top engineers and geophysicists. Once inside, experience temperatures that are usually around 0 degrees Celsius or 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Continue into the Borgarfjörður Valley and see the stunning mile-long waterfall of Hraunfossar as it gushes through a wall of lava!

Wow, Wow, Wow! I highly recommend this tour. It was so fun! I highly recommend going. The trucks you ride in to get to the cave is unique and fun to ride in. The guides do a nice job of telling information about the cave, and of answering questions. They provide you with clamp-ons, and a hiking pole if needed. So, you feel comfortable walking on the ice. It is a unique and memorable way to spend the day.

Deep inside Longjökull Glacier

An excellent tour with information from an audioguide but also a real live guide. Wally was very informative and made lots of jokes during the trip. Changeing from bus to 4x4 vehicle on the glacier also changed the guide. Apart from learning a few words in Icelandic, we got more information about the glacier itself and how long it took to excavate the tunnels in a constantly moving ice system. Inside the Longkökull Glacier you are able to see recent and older eruptions of volcanos where the Eyjafjallajökull is probably the most famous. The deeper you get into the glacier the older the ice is. A few signs along the tunnels explain facts about crevasses, water pipes and more in the ice. After around 45-55 minutes in the glacier, being back on the bus you get to see two big waterfalls. Because the weather was really good the visiblity on the glacier and even at the waterfalls was fantastic. Our glacier guide told us that sometimes it is hard to say where the glacier ends.

out of this world

Rep was great, full of information and even sang to us. we had plenty of time in the glacier and above to play in the snow. Was child friendly and even provided extra clothing if needed. shoe chains were put on our boots to prevent us slipping which was great. overall an amazing experience which we will remember forever.
