Full description
Leave early from Reykjavík for the Langjökull Glacier Ice Cave and Víðgelmir Lava Cave adventure.  Step aboard one of the huge specially-modified monster trucks, and drive up the glacier to the ice cave. Before you know it, you'll find yourself standing on top of an ice cap and about to begin your descent down below the surface of the glacier to explore what lies beneath. The ice tunnel or ice cave, is a man-made glacier cave high up in the remote highlands of Iceland. Your guide will explain how global warming has begun to affect the glacial environment, and take you on a magical journey deep within the glacier. You will see stunning blue glacier ice and wonderful glacier formations. The glacier is in constant motion and you can witness that movement of nature itself first-hand. The temperature inside the glacier is usually around zero degrees Celsius or 32 Fahrenheit, and until very recently what lay beneath the surface of Langjökull was a mystery. After the ice cave tour you'll get back on board the glacier truck and head back down. Enjoy some lunch at Hotel Húsafell, and then go on to explore the mightiest lava cave in Iceland, Víðgelmir. Your cave guide will show and explain the amazing features of the cave, e.g. the  wonderful colors, lava stalactites and stalagmites. The wooden walkway with railings and remotely operated lighting make this an easy tour for almost anyone. This tour is family friendly and ideal for kids. After the adventures, you will take a scenic route back to Reykjavík.

Absolute extraordinary experiences in ice & lava !!!!

The pick-up from the hotel to the transfer point went smoothly. The trip lasted approx. 2 hours, during the trip one could enjoy the landscape and was also informed in German by an audio guide. At this point the group had split, those who wanted to go to the Icecave with the glacier mobile (an 8x8 truck) could borrow suits and shoes (temperatures in the cave are around freezing). After driving up the glacier we were led through the cave. A fascinating experience, the cave is beautifully lit and there are interesting insights into the "life" of a glacier. You can see, for example, the individual layers of ash from the volcanic eruptions, crevasses created by the glacier movement and natural crevices. After the tour we went to the largest LavaCave Islands, here we were led through the cave, learned a lot about their formation and the different lava forms. All in all a very exciting experience & great experience
