Full description

Undergo a unique underwater experience by snorkeling in the Silfra fissure on a half-day tour from Reykjavik. Frequently rated as one of the world's top 10 dive sites, Silfra offers up to 100 m (300 ft) of underwater visibility.

Admire views of Iceland's stunning landscape as you ride from Reykjavik to the heart of Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site. Snorkel in this location for 45 min with your guide, before returning to the warmth of the tour van and heading back to Reykjavik.

The cold waters melt off a glacier 50 km (30 miles) away and make their way through lava fields to beautiful Thingvellir Lake. Although the chilly waters are too cold to support much in the way of marine life, Iceland's Silfra crack runs down between the American and European continental plates and offers amazing underwater views.

This trip was fantastic. I had no snorkelling experience at all but our guide Fonzy (not sure if I spelt that correctly!) was so helpful throughout; he made sure we knew what to expect and supported us. The suits were tricky to put on but they did a great job keeping us dry and warm. As for the snorkelling itself, relax and let the gentle current carry you so you can take in the beautiful colours and geology. An experience I won’t forget.

Unique! However, there are a few things you should definitely know before booking (unfortunately I didn't find out about them until the bus was halfway to the Silfra fissure). There it was said that people with physical problems such as asthma need a medical certificate and their inhaler. But that was not checked. Putting on all the diving equipment when several groups arrive at the same time takes a lot of time and is a bit strenuous. Nothing for the particularly squeamish. We were annoyed by millions of small flies. Recommended: pack warm, comfortable long-sleeved and long-legged clothing. Valuables stay on the bus At the end you have to swim against a very slight current, which was a bit tiring due to the cold. Keeping your hands behind your back actually helps a lot against the cold on your hands

I'm writing this review as a mid size/plus size person. I'm about 200 lbs and 5 ft tall. Everything I read for this tour said we need to be "physically fit" and comfortable in the water. One could argue that I'm not physically fit and while I do love swimming, I only do it once a year. I've been snorkeling where the water is warm. Quite a difference experience to this one. I would strongly recommend that anyone who wants to go to read the information they send out. We came prepared with wool leggings and wool undershirt thermals and it made all of the difference. On top it looks like a little creek but underneath it was gorgeous. The 30 minutes went by so quickly. I was content to just float but the people behind were pushing us along. It was truly amazing. Overall, I would definitely recommend it. You also can't sink because of the buoyancy of the suit. As someone who is plus size and might not be the most athletic, I was definitely daunted by doing this but I'm so glad I did.
