Full description
A glacier walk is a great way to experience Icelandic nature and a tour to Sólheimajökull glacier tongue is an ideal way to spend the day. On the 2-hour drive from Reykjavík, you will pass right under the famous Eyjafjallajökull volcano that caused so much trouble in the spring of 2010. Just east of the volcano lies Sólheimajökull, an outlet glacier from Mýrdalsjökull, Iceland’s fourth-largest glacier. As you explore the wonderland of ice sculptures, ridges, and deep crevasses, you will learn more and more about these disappearing giants. Experienced mountain guides will teach you how to use basic glacier equipment for this tour. Please note that ice climbing is not included. On the way back to Reykjavík after the exhilarating glacier hike, you will stop at the two beautiful waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. Seljalandsfoss is part of the Seljandsá river, which has its origins in Eyjafjallajökull glacier. What makes this waterfall so famous and interesting is that you can walk behind it. It is recommended that you bring either a raincoat or a waterproof coat along if you want to walk behind it. Skógafoss, another famous Icelandic waterfall, is the starting point of the Fimmvörðuháls walk over to Þórsmörk. The waterfall was also used in the films Thor: The Dark World and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

It was a very nice trip. The weather played along. First you visit a waterfall, then you go to the glacier with appropriate equipment. We were on it for 3 hours and it was physically in the medium range, you have to be able to walk well, have no joint pain, generally be in good physical condition. Then we went to a waterfall again, very nice and also very cold, so warm clothes are very important. At 10 a.m. (gas station) and at 4 p.m. (kiosk) we could buy something to eat (you can pay anywhere with a card), so drinks and take away food if you don't want to eat overpriced. The bus driver and guide on the glacier told a lot and were happy to answer the questions. The bus ride was great, the driver was careful and planned toilet breaks for us in good time. Unforgettable pictures and unforgettable experience

Both the driver and the mountain guide were very kind and I enjoyed the day. You will be taught very carefully how to wear crampons and how to walk on the glacier. Even beginners can participate with peace of mind because they will walk according to people who are slippery or who are slow to walk. However, people who don't usually hike will get tired.
