Full description

Feel the thrill of discovering the unique rock formations in the Raufarhólshellir lava tube on a guided tour. Venture into the cave with a high-quality flashlight and helmet. Stay connected during your trip with complimentary WiFi on the climate-controlled bus from Reykjavik to the cave.

Journey by bus from Reykjavik to the Raufarhólshellir lava tunnel about 30 minutes from the capital. Upon arrival, explore one of the largest lava tubes in Iceland, where the ceiling has caved in near the entrance to create beautiful columns of light.

Marvel at the fantastic range of colors in the tunnel wall caused by different mineral types in the rock. Go on a sensory journey as you hear the cave "talk" and feel the forces of nature like never before.

Step out of your comfort zone at a site so extraordinary it was selected as a filming location for the Hollywood movie "Noah" starring Anthony Hopkins.

Apart from the bus driver being completely uncommunicative and the wait at the centre to go on the tour, exploring the lava tunnel was incredible. The explanations given by our guide, the amazing colours and rock formations were well worth the visit. The helmets were heated which was a plus but definitely take gloves and scarf, the tunnel is a cool 4 degrees!

The driver picked us up and dropped us off punctually. The one think that I think might be more helpful is if Reykjavik Excursions could specify that we should go to the back of the terminal to find our bus; we were waiting on the wrong side of the terminal because the meeting point was a bit vague.

The tour started on time and was well organized. However, this only lasts three hours and not five as stated. The round trip takes between 30 and 45 minutes. The actual tour takes about an hour plus some time to look around. This may need to be changed here! The guide was very friendly and happy to answer any questions. All in all, it was still a very interesting tour
