Full description
Snorkeling in the Silfra fissure is a unique and exotic underwater experience. Frequently rated as one of the world's top 10 dive sites, Silfra offers up to 100 m (300 ft) of underwater visibility. The cold waters here melt off a glacier 50 km (30 miles) away, and make their way through lava fields to beautiful Thingvellir Lake. Although the chilly waters are too cold to support much in the way of marine life, Iceland's Silfra crack runs down between the American and European continental plates and offers amazing underwater views. Admire views of Iceland's stunning landscape as you ride from Reykjavik to the heart of Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site. You'll go snorkeling in this amazing location for an hour with your guide, before returning to the warmth of the tour van and heading back to Reykjavik.

It would have been better if the description had been more informative. Ie, bring a towel, no bathing suit need since you are using a dry suit, wear a thermal base layer such as light sweat pants or yoga pants to wear under the dry suit because jeans or heavy garments wont fit that there is no place to change clothes. Lastly, while our guide Diogo was very friendly and a very nice person the man who headed the tour was a real prick.

What a wonderful adventure! We had a great guide who got us all suited up and excited, then we were off to snorkel in icy waters to see the continental divide. With hands and face freezing, the rest of the body being dry and reasonably warm felt good. They even thought of providing us with hot chocolate to warm up afterwards. Highly recommended!

This was one of the best experiences I've had during my week is Iceland. Our arctic adventures driver and the guide at Silfra (Goran) were absolutely wonderful, answered any questions, gave lots of information, were so helpful (I was there solo with no one to really help me in and out of stuff) and they were a great laugh. Silfra itself is an experience of a lifetime. Your body doesn't feel any cold in the water - just your hands, feet and face, but it's not that bad in my opinion. Prepare to be completely buckled up with tight and bulky gear from head to toe. I hope to one day come back here.
