Full description
Explore the life and work of the Dutch master, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, at the Amsterdam home where he lived and worked for 20 years until he went bankrupt in 1656, with an entrance ticket to the Rembrandt House Museum in central Amsterdam. Your ticket comes with a complimentary audio guide that allows you to explore the interior of the house, now restored to its 17th-century glory. Discover rooms where Rembrandt worked, and see works of art, furniture, and other objects from Rembrandt's time. The museum also owns an almost complete collection of Rembrandt etchings, and part of the collection is on permanent view. There are frequent temporary exhibitions showcasing the work of his predecessors and contemporaries, and modern and current works of art in the museum’s new wing. The house is very well set up with a caveat that one must go up a steep winding stairway to get to the exhibit fine for me less so for my 88 year old mother.... The only thing lacking is paintings painted by rembrandt only one in the entire house. Seeing where he lived and painted and the exhibit of his studio and collections and set up for students is great and original etchings. however if a few more paintings were made available it would highly enhance the experience. Luckily we saw the night watch on exhibit in the Rhiek museaum the day before......

Learning about Rembrandt's personal life, his style of painting the real person, and seeing and moving around the home space and studio brought a different dimension of understanding. Life for an artist was and is hard; but the passion and his talent is exceptional. Travelling to the house is easy, and then we had time for some dinner close by.

If you are interested in the backstory to Rembrandt, this is the place to be. Although, check as it is I mportant to show up at the times posted for the demonstrations. Once you go through the exhibit there’s no way back to the first floor where the etching was taking place,,,,you can only walk up the stairs. Otherwise we would have had to wait 45 minutes in the hallway for the next session. Luckily, we ended up at the “How paint colors are made.” Demonstration! The docent was fantastic, knowledgeable and took time to engage the crowd as well as answer the many questions that were asked in several different languages. She, gets our 5 star rating. Equally as essential is the free audio guide to the museum.
