What to Expect
This 4-day tour takes you on a discovery of the most important sights in Quito and the surrounding area. Admire the views of the magnificent landscape of snowcapped mountains and glistening lakes as you journey to the Otavalo market. Explore the sights in the historical center of Quito as well as the Middle of the World monument that divides the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.
Day 1: Arrival in Quito
You will be picked up at the airport and transferred to your hotel in Quito.
Day 2: Excursion to Otavalo Market
After breakfast you will depart from Quito through the Pan-American Highway. You will take a brief stop at Calderon, a town where the famous masapan dolls are made, before continuing on through the town of Guayllabamba with its typical cherimoya fruit. You will stop at the highway that leads to Cayambe to admire the beautiful landscape and snowcapped mountains in the area. Crossing the equatorial line at Cayambe, you will pass by Guachala, which used to be half of the world monument, and make a stop at Mira Lago to admire the view of the beautiful San Pablo Lake. The tour then continues to Otavalo, where native Otavaleños have set up a market selling a variety of different handcrafted items. Continuing on the trip, you will visit the leather stores at Cotacachi before returning to Quito through the Cajas-Tabacundo road.
Day 3: City tour and Equatorial Monument
After breakfast you will start a panoramic route through the banking and financial areas, shopping malls, and La Mariscal neighborhood, where most hotels are located. You will then continue towards the historical center of the city where you will visit El Panecillo, San Francisco and La Basilica churches, and Plaza de la Independencia. Walking through the colonial streets you will find the cathedral, the Government’s Palace, and La Compañía Church, where you can admire the decorations and gold altars. You will continue to the northern part of the city, heading up to the Middle of the World monument that divides the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. At the end, you can take an optional visit to either Intiñan Museum of the Ethnographic Museum.
Day 4: Departure from Quito
After breakfast you will transfer to the airport.
