Spend 5 days in Educator, exploring the many different villages and natural surroundings, on a tour that takes you in and around Quito. Tour the capital city, see where the 2 hemispheres meet, visit a local market, and spend a day at a national park.
What to Expect
Experience Educator and its vibrant culture, lifestyle, and people on a 5-day tour. While headquartered in Quito, you will have plenty of time to explore both the city itself, as well as the many places located nearby. Visit a nearby village where the locals barter at the market, spend a day in a national park, tour Quito and see the main sights, including the Equatorial Monument, and much more. For this tour, you will have the option of beginning on a Monday or Wednesday. Both tours do the same things, albeit in a different order.

Detailed Itinerary (Monday Start)
Day 1: Arrival

Upon arriving at the airport you will be transported to your hotel in Quito.

Day 2: Excursion to Otavalo Market (Meals: B)

Depart from Quito through the Pan-American North Highway via Cayambe, and make a brief stop at old equatorial monument Guachalá. Taste the delicious “Bizcochos de Cayambe”, a type of cracker or bread baked in a clay oven (greatly paired with local cheese or caramel sauce), before heading to a rose farm to discover the process that produces the world famous Ecuadorian Roses. Continue on to Otavalo to the Otavaleños' market, which hosts a variety of different handcrafted items.

Stay longer in Otavalo or go to visit to the leather shops at Cotacachi before returning to Quito via the Cajas-Tabacundo road.

Day 3: City Tour & Equatorial Monument (Meals: B)
Take a touristic route along the most important areas of the city, including shopping centers and Zona Rosa "La Mariscal" (bars and restaurants), where most of the hotels in Quito are located. Continue towards the historic center to visit its churches and major landmarks, explore each of its corners at your own pace from the door of your hotel.

Continue towards the northern part of the city heading up to the “Middle of the World City” (entrance included) where the monument that divides the Northern from the Southern Hemisphere can be observed. Built during the XVII century when a French Expedition defined the precise location of the equatorial line, this is one not to be missed!. At the end, opt to visit either to Intiñan or Ethnographic Museum (entrance is not included).

Day 4: Excursion to Cotopaxi National Park (Meals: B)

Departure by bus early in the morning through the pan American highway where you can observe beautiful landscapes and diverse ecosystems, clear evidence of the majesty of the Andes. Head to the Limpiopungo Lagoon for a short walk and continue climbing the slopes of Cotopaxi volcano to reach the parking lot at 4500 miles and observe a magnificent view of the park (if the weather permits). Drive a short way to the Saquisilí Market, one of the most remarkable traditional markets of the south. Continue on to the typical hacienda of the region to visit its premises, it is optional to lunch, horseback ride (previous reservation required) or walk in its tails. Finally, return to Quito in the afternoon.

Not included: entrance to Cotopaxi National Park Lunch.

Day 5: Departure (Meals: B)
After breakfast, you will be transported back to the hotel.

Day 1: Arrival

Upon arriving at the airport you will be transported to your hotel in Quito.

Day 2: Excursion to Cotopaxi National Park (Meals: B)
Early in the morning, depart by bus toward the train station and enjoy a picturesque 1 hour and 45-minute ride to Machachi. Continue by bus to the active volcano of Cotopaxi. At the national park, visit the museum, explore the great outdoors, and stop at the Limpiopungo lagoon. Then continue to a typical hacienda, where you may opt to buy lunch. Visit a local flower plantation before returning to Quito.
Entrance to the Cotopaxi National Park is not included.

Day 3: City Tour & Equatorial Monument (Meals: B)
Take a city tour, beginning with a panoramic route among the banking and financial areas, shopping malls, and La Mariscal neighborhood, where most of hotels are located. Continue toward the historical city center to visit “El Panecillo,” San Francisco and Las Basilica churches, Plaza de la Independencia, the Cathedral, the Government Palace, and La Compañía Church. Head next to “Middle of the World City,” the monument that divides the 2 hemispheres. Afterward, you may opt to visit either the Intiñan or Ethnographic museums.

Day 4: Excursion to Otavalo Market (Meals: B)
Depart from Quito along the Panamericana North Highway, briefly stopping at Calderon, a town where the famous “masapan” dolls are made. Pass through Guayllabamba, admire the landscape and snow-capped mountains along the way, cross the equator, and stop quickly for photos at Mira Lago. Continue to Otavalo, where the natives set up a bartering market which hosts a variety of different handcrafted items. Visit the leather shops in Cotacachi before returning to Quito along the Cajas-Tabacundo Road.

Day 5: Departure (Meals: B)
After breakfast, you will be transported back to the hotel.
