Full description

This half-day activity begins and concludes with a 45-minute cruise across Queenstown’s Lake Wakatipu onboard the historic TSS Earnslaw. Spend a few hours enjoying the culinary delights at Walter Peak High Country Station, including an entertaining farm demonstration the whole family will enjoy.

Feel free to take advantage of the extensive lay-out of this incredible steamship – she is a floating museum of her own history, and you are more than welcome to enter the engine room where you can watch our hardy coal-stokers as they keep this beautiful lady of the lake gliding across the waters of Lake Wakatipu. Overlooking Lake Wakatipu and Queenstown’s incredible alpine scenery, the Colonel’s Homestead at Walter Peak is the perfect place to spend a beautiful day in Central Otago. Its colonial architecture and sweeping grounds evoke the elegance of a bygone era. Spend your time wandering the award-winning gardens, or saying hello to the animals that call the station home. The BBQ Buffet includes salads, vegetables, and succulent local meats cooked on the outdoor rotisserie or grill. There is a wide range of desserts on offer, including a vast array of fresh bread and cheese. From start to finish this trip is awesome 1912 steamer where you can watch the coal being put into the fire and all the engine working cruising on the beautiful lake. Arriving at walter peak and having an outstanding BBQ lunch with lots of everything cooked and prepared by excellent chefs and served with friendly and helpful staff and to finish the day a farm dog demonstration and a sail back to queenstown. Our family loved it

Beautiful boat, gentle cruise, great scenery. Fortunately not crowded and a lovely day. Was expecting to sit at benches for a barbecued lunch but was delightfully surprised to sit at tables for 2 under umbrellas on the large patio in front of the homestead looking out onto the lake. The meal was absolutely delicious, a large variety of dishes to help oneself to, the deserts were a work of art and beautifully presented. A good choice of wine and excellent service. The gift shop had a good selection of souvenirs of good quality and to end the day at Walter's peak was a fun demonstration of the working dogs rounding up the sheep. Walking back to the boat I passed a variety of farm animals which would be great for the children. I went as a single person, but it caters for everyone. I was staying in Arrowtown and instead of driving to Queenstown and finding a park for the car, I took the local bus which stopped a short walk from the jetty and runs hourly and very reasonably priced.

We have a lovely cruise seeing the sights, being informed as to where and what we were seeing. Stayed a Walters Peak for an absolutely delicious BBQ lunch. Nice and relaxing, could not fault the day, good value for money. Would definitely do it again soon and can highly recommend.
