Full description

Visit the coconut house or “Casa del Coco” to learn how coconut oil is produced and taste exotic Caribbean fruits, roasted coffee, and cacao. Interact in close proximity with friendly squirrel monkeys for the next 45 minutes. These charming and intelligent monkeys have been trained by a Canadian couple with over 35 years of experience working with animals, including 12 years at the Toronto Zoo teaching monkeys how to interact with humans. The tour is based on 5 acres of beautiful land that monkeys have made their home. They will descend from the trees to sit on your shoulder and eat from your hands. They also love to pose for the cameras, especially for selfies.

We were picked up on time and our tour guide spoke German well, he kindly asked everyone if it would be ok if he spoke English so that he didn't have to translate two languages as well. He also offered to answer any questions. On site it took a while until we were allowed to see the little monkeys. It was about 45 minutes that we then had with the monkeys. (Of course you can also buy souvenirs here again... photos) but we were allowed to take pictures ourselves the whole time. Then we went to a demonstration where we got explained how cocoa, coffee and coconut oil are made. (Very informative if you understand English... this was only in English) Finally, as expected, we went to a sales show... We were allowed to try cocoa and coffee and of course also buy it on site. (No obligation to buy!) We knew this was going to happen and if you're prepared for it, it's still pretty cool!

The pickup was smooth and on time. The tour started with us being told something about cocoa, coffee and coconut oil (including tasting), the products could also be bought afterwards. However, everything took a long time because you actually wanted to see the monkeys. Then we went to monkey country. Time was now rather short, the stay was about 30 minutes. Unfortunately, an independent inspection of the facility was not possible, we had to walk the specially designed path with the entire group. The feeding, however, was great. The monkeys just jumped over you, even climbed on their heads. Just incredibly trusting and sweet the little ones. The trip to the monkey park was definitely worth it :-)

Following our reservation we received an email informing us of the meeting place and time for the excursion. This activity was supervised by our great Guide Jesus and his fellow driver Frandy! On the program: animation presenting the art of working coffee and cocoa + tasting. Tasting of Mama Juana, typical Dominican alcohol. Possibility to buy different products (ranging from 5$ to 30$) Visit of monkeyland, before starting you are offered to leave your personal belongings in collective lockers (free) or in lockers with padlocks (rental at 10$). Then the monkey tour starts and there are several stops where you feed the monkeys and have a photographer take your picture. You are also free to bring your smartphone and take your own photos. At the end of the visit you obviously have the possibility to buy the photos, credit card ok ($40 the pack of 15 photos in digital version / $10 the photo printed on site)
