See penguins in their natural environment on a day trip to Punta Tombo from Puerto Madryn. Take an optional dolphin-watching tour to marvel at small dolphins playing in the sea. Go to the town of Gaiman to experience its unique heritage and taste its tea!
What to Expect
Depart Puerto Madryn for Punta Tombo to see the most important penguins of Latin America in their natural habitat.
Arrive at Union Beach in Puerto Rawson at the mouth of the Chubut River at around 09:00. Then, take an optional 1.5-hour dolphin watching trip to look for the world's smallest dolphins playing in their natural environment. Enjoy some free time to sample the cuisine of Puerto Rawson, famous for its seafood.
Continue to Punta Tombo to visit a reserve of Magellanic penguins for approximately 1.5 hours. Along the way, observe how the different animals, such as gulls, skuas, giant petrels, cormorants, oyster catchers and duck steams, cohabit on the coast. Keep a look out for the characteristic species of the steppe landscape, including guanacos, choiques, rabbits and foxes.
Visit the town of Gaiman, colonized by Welsh settlers in the 19th century, and explore its culture and some chapels of a very particular kind of architecture. Taste some of the tea the town is famous for before the return journey to Puerto Madryn.
