Things to do in Puerto Almanza

Start the tour in the local tourist dock and board a modern and comfortable boat. Set sail and cross the wide Ushuaia Bay until you reach the Beagle Channel through Paso Chico. Then, navigate around the Bird's Island where you can appreciate species of the Tierra del Fuego's seabirds such as skuas, black-browed albatross, steam ducks, cauquenes, cook seagulls, and gray seagulls. After that, reach Sea Lion Island which also belongs to the Bridges Archipelago and is inhabited by 2 different species of sea lion. Arrive at the Les Eclaireurs (The Illuminators) Lighthouse where you will find imperial and rocky cormorants colonies. Hear the story of the collapse of the SS Monte Cervantes in 1930. Next, continue sailing East into the wonderful landscapes of the Beagle Channel surrounded by stunning mountain ranges. Admire both Puerto Almanza on the Argentina coast and the Puerto Williams Naval Base on the Chilean coast. After that, head onwards to Martillo Island, also known as Penguin Island where you will have the opportunity to observe a colony of Magellanic and Papua penguins in their natural habitat. Make the return journey back to the dock, where your tour will end. 

This tour does not include transportation to the port, so passengers must make their own way there. After exchanging the voucher for boarding passes, they will be able to board the catamaran, which will begin its journey through the Bay of Ushuaia and the Beagle Channel, visiting Bird Island, Sea Lions Island, Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse, and after 80 km of navigation, it will arrive at Martillo Island to see the Mallelanic & Gentoo penguins from the boat. The catamaran will then return to the city after approximately 4.5 hours of navigation, dropping passengers off at the port. Our city tour begins at the Pinguinos Expediciones office, and from there we will head to La Misión neighborhood in our vehicle. From this spot, we can enjoy an incredible view of the southernmost part of the Andes Mountain range in America. This location was one of the places chosen by the native people, and later by the first white settlers, to inhabit the Bay of Ushuaia. This will provide the guide an opportunity to begin telling the story of human settlement in the Beagle Channel, a narrative that will continue throughout the tour. The excursion will proceed with visits to the most important places in the historic center, including the giant letter sign of the city’s name, the Ushuaia port, the former Ushuaia Prison and Jail for Repeat Offenders, now turned into a museum (we do not enter the museum), and will finally head to the Martial Glacier Reserve. Once on the mountain, we visit the tea house and the beer point. We will then return to the city center and drop off all passengers who wish to return to their hotel. An experience to delight all the senses. Early in the morning we will start our trip in our vehicle to Puerto Almanza. On the way we will be dazzled by the landscapes that Ushuaia offers us, its ancient glacial valleys and the National Route N°3. On the way we will stop for a coffee at Laguna Victoria, where our senses will be fascinated by the nature that surrounds us, and then we will continue our journey. Once in Puerto Almanza, we will start trekking to Lasifasaj Waterfall, where we will be amazed by the diversity of flora and the dazzling waterfall. After a morning of adventure and with an appetite, we will enjoy the best southern gastronomy in a classic restaurant of the town. Our soul will savor the most beautiful landscapes and the surrounding history: the port of Almanza, Puerto Williams, the beautiful Brown Bay and the Gable Island, are some of the beautiful postcards that this fuegian coastal journey offers us. After lunch, we will take a walk around the town, to continue immersing ourselves in its history and customs, and then return to the city of Ushuaia.
