Astrit was a fantastic guide, very accommodating. He was very knowledgeable. He was willing to go at the pace I wanted. He was happy to take as many photos and videos as I wanted to get the perfect shots I wanted. Unfortunately, it poured down rain so I decided to cut out a lot of the tour and go relax in my hotel room. A good reason to go back! On my last morning, it was sunny and Astrit took me to see a lot of the city’s street art, which I was particularly interested in, so that was generous of him and was a highlight after my rainy day two days prior. Astrit is a safe driver and also took me to get traditional Kosovo food at a restaurant when I got hungry during our tour, and all of his recommendations were delicious. I would definitely tour with Astrit again!

Itinerary

Once you meet the guide in the suggested place, you are introduced with the content of the tour and start with a short structured walking tour, within the town, exactly what you need for sightseeing and understanding PRISHTINA. It takes around 2.5 hour to walk around and get to know the best of the city. After the walking tour, we move forward to the Eastern Part of Prishtina. Our first stop in the way, it’s the famous Gracanica Monastery (UNESCO Heritage List), where you’ll be fascinated with the extra-ordinary interior of full of magnificent frescoes. The guide of Monastery would be happy to explain you the interesting story of the monastery which dates from 1321 and it’s been always in service till nowadays.

Impressed with the Monastery, we’ll continue around one more KM further to explore the archaeological park of Ulpiana. It is the most important archaeological site in Kosovo, representing an old civilization of Dardanian Kingdom from the bronze age. Historically, during the 3nd and 4th Century AC it became one of the five most important Roman Towns in Balkan Peninsula.

Afterwards we move towards Marble cave of Gadime which is as 10 more KM away. It’s an wonderful cave with lots of interesting galleries with full of mysteries. The tour into the cave takes an half an hour and is guided by the respective guide of the cave.

Bear Sanctuary: Right after the cave we depart to Bear Sanctuary. It is a lovely natural park with hilarious brown bears all around. It is awesome to see the Bears playing up and down all the day long. It is a story of survival, love and dedication for bears and animals.

For those short on time skip the walking tour of Pristina, the Montessori, and the archeological site and go directly to the bear sanctuary and the cave. The bear sanctuary isn’t as great or grad and the Libearty Bear Sanctuary in Romania but it was still nice. The gift shop is good and the proceeds apart from making the item go back into the sanctuary. The caves are amazing! The best part of the walking tour was the anthropology museum and the monument that represents all the women who have been sexually assaulted. There was a lot of US history which was nice since I’m from the US and Kosovo is a country that actually likes USA lol. The Montessori looks like every other Montessori and the archeological site is ehh. This trip is doable but probably not suitable for those with accessibility issues. Half of the bear sanctuary is uphill on gravel or sand. Some parts of it have cobblestone. Astrit was a great guide and because this was a private tour very flexible. He picked us up.
