You will be picked between 09:30 – 10:00 from your hotel to start your sightseeing trip through the amazing city of Mumbai with a local English-speaking guide. The first stop is the Gateway of India, one of the most famous architectural structures in Mumbai and a popular tourist attraction. Its stunning construction portrays both Muslim and Hindu styles of architecture. You will take in the Royal Taj Hotel, which is located opposite the Gateway of India. This place is indeed a treasure trove of invaluable memories of the heritage of Mumbai and of the Taj Towers, which are an amazing architectural structure worth seeing. Listed next on your trip is the exclusive Prince of Wales Museum,(closed on Monday). Built between 1904 and 1914, this museum was used as a hospital during the First World War. The museum stores an invaluable collection of some of the best art found in India including antiques, miniature paintings, jade, china and many other artifacts. Then, you will catch a glimpse of the other famous buildings of Mumbai as we drive you past the University of Bombay, High Court of Bombay and Crawford Market. Situated at the crest of the Malabar Hills are the Hanging Gardens, where you can enjoy the much wanted greenery amidst all the concrete and cement structures. As the tour drives through the Malabar Hills, you will catch a glimpse of the posh residential area of Mumba, before being taken to visit the esteemed Gandhi Memorial Museum (Mani Bhavan) and the religious Jain Temple. Watch the washer men or the 'dhobis' provide an efficient service, gathering dirty laundry, cleaning it and returning it perfectly ironed, all at an exceptionally small price. They remove persistent stains by soaking the clothes in a boiling vat of caustic soda. They then dry the clothes on long, brightly colored lines and use heavy wood‐burning irons to neatly press them. The spectacular site this dhobi ghat provides is a photographer's delight, though the locals here find it bewildering that their daily work arouses such interest among visitors. After visiting the Dhobi Ghat, the tour heads towards the drive past Bandra Worli Sea Link. Later in the day, around 16:00 – 17:00, we will take you to the beautiful Marine Drive, popularly known as the Queen's Necklace. Here, you can sit and relax (for 30 – 60 minutes) and take in breath-taking views of the Arabian Sea. This is one of the favorite places of all Mumbaikars and becomes a favorite of every person who visits the spot due to its captivating aura. You will be picked up by a guide from your hotel lobby at 09:00 and taken to the Gateway of India. The Gateway of India is one of the most famous architectural structures in Mumbai and a popular tourist attraction. Its stunning construction portrays both Muslim and Hindu styles of architecture. You will take in the Royal Taj Hotel, which is located opposite the Gateway of India. This place is indeed a treasure trove of invaluable memories of the heritage of Mumbai and of the Taj Towers, which are an amazing architectural structure worth seeing. The walk then proceeds towards the Regal Theater. This theater was designed by Charles Stevens and the interior was created by Karl Schara. It opened in the year 1933 as the Regal Cinema and was the only Art Deco cinema present at the time. After that, the tour group is taken to view the Prince of Wales Museum from the outside. This museum was designed by George Willet and its foundation stone was laid in the year 1905 by the visiting Prince of Wales. Next, the walk continues on to the Elphinstone College – a 19th century, majestic, Gothic-Victorian-style university campus, complete with balconies, balustrades, gargoyles and turrets. Further down the road is the University of Bombay, which was established in 1857 at the Town Hall. In 1874, it was relocated to the new complex near Oval Maidan. At present, this University is amongst the best in the country and ranked among the top 500 universities in the world. The walk continues to the Flora Fountain – a beautifully structured stone fountain located in the Fort business district that was constructed by the Agri‐Horticultural Society of Western India. After viewing the fountain, the walk continues to the Victoria Terminus Railway Station (Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus), the headquarters of the Central Railways. This 19th-century building demonstrates both structural and technical brilliance and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. After all the walking, the tour participants take a short taxi ride for about 2 kms (10 minutes), from the VT station to a small café with a nostalgic aura, Café Samovar, which is located in the Jahangir Art Gallery. After a relaxing break of snacks at the Samovar Café, you are taken back to your hotels.
