Sintra: Beaches and Colares Tasting Tour

1. Sintra: Beaches and Colares Tasting Tour

At beginning of your private tour, you will be picked up at your accommodation at 10:00 AM, where you will meet your friendly guide for the day. Sintra is not just the magical, mountainous villa people know of but it's also a whole council of 319,2 km² that includes an amazing coastline, with more than a dozen natural beaches, and a vast area of rural villages with lots of traditions. This tour aims to show you not just Sintra's center, but also the less-visited places in this region, that are true gems ready to be discovered. From Sintra's mountain, you then head to the beautiful countryside following the century old tram line, until you reach Colares, where life is simple and agriculture predominates, as well as wine making. Colares has the oldest wine seller in the country and you will be taken there for a brief visit, before getting to know Portugal's wine traditions a little better. From the wine cellar, you head across the winding road trail to some of the stunning Portuguese beaches such as Praia Grande and Praia Pequena, before stopping at Azenhas do Mar. Located between the ocean and a big cliff, this small town has a heavenly location and is among the most appreciated and exciting beaches in Europe. You will also stop at Adraga Beach, another of Sintra's gems, so you can catch the ocean breeze and relax a little, while overlooking the wild scenery. From there, you go to Cabo da Roca – the most western point in Europe, where the ocean clashes with land in perfect harmony. A true picture perfect location, with stunning and breathtaking views you will never forget.   Along this amazing exclusive Tour we will do various stops for tasting a wide variety of Portuguese wines! From Green & White to Red (not forgetting the famous Rosé) , from outside tasting to a cozy winery and vineyard routes you will get a proper inside to the wine traditions in Portugal. And of course all you wish and need to know told by a wine enthusiast aka our Wonder Guide! And of course so the gastronomical experience is complete, we prepare for you a especially Portuguese table of “petiscos” (what the Spanish call “tapas”), including the tastiest cheeses, “chouriços” made in front of you, jams and much more!

We only had a few days in Lisbon, and we are so happy that we got away from the city crowds and did this tour! Definitely the best way to see a lot in a few hours. We loved traveling around with a local! Our guide Ruben was knowledgeable and we could see his love for the places he took us. We decided to skip Pena Palace figuring it would be busy and instead explored the Moorish Castle which was breathtaking. Ruben gave us a lot of tips and even called around to different restaurants to hunt down something specific my husband wanted to try. Ruben was able to customize our day based on what we like. I would highly recommend this tour!

Of course in Sintra one must visit Pena & other palaces, and Quinta de Regaleira. But there are so many MORE gems that are hidden as well. This tour is a must to actually learn about traditional life in Portugal (which the normal tourist sites do not show at all). And Filipe was a fantastic tour guide. He is very knowledgeable and very fun. He obviously loves his country as well. If all you want to learn is who built a chair in a palace, this is not the tour for you - stick with the run-of-the-mill palace tours. But if you want to know what life was like in the small village, call Filipe. You won’t be disappointed.

Very great tour with excellent guide. Lots of amazing nature milestones and historical points!

Booked it as a surprise trip for my girlfriends birthday. It was magnificent.

The guide was very flexible and found things to match my interest
