Taking the road that travels along the North coast reach Nordeste, usually referred as the 10th island for its remoteness, and the oldest geological part of São Miguel. Mountains, woods, waterfalls, belvederes that rise over the sea, beautiful villages, and a multitude of flowers mark this area. It is possible to find genuine handicrafts and delicious gastronomy here which you can see and taste at your stop in Nordeste village. After lunch continue the tour around the east part of the island until you reach the village of Povoação, the place where the first settlers set foot on the island. Finish the day with a stop at Salto do Cavalo belvedere.

Start the tour by leaving Ponta Delgada and traveling towards the north coast. Make the first stop at Ribeira dos Caldeirões in the municipality of Nordeste. See the beautiful waterfall, known as Véu da Noiva, and the surrounding watermills and gardens. Pass through picturesque villages as you travel on towards the wonderful viewpoints of Ponta do Sossego and Ponta da Madrugada, on the eastern tip of the island. View the beautiful lighthouse from the top of the cliff. Stop for lunch which will be served in the village of Povoação, the oldest settlement on the island. In the afternoon, relax near the sea or explore the historic center of Povoação. Return to Ponta Delgada along the south coast, passing by Furnas Lake and Vila Franca do Campo.

The Nordeste is one of the lesser-known destinations of Portugal, yet it remains one of the most beautiful areas of São Miguel Island. Spend a day exploring the area in a 4x4, traveling along the coast to Ribeira Grande and Porto Formoso, among others. The the 4x4 will climb to one of the highest peaks on the island: the Pico Bartolomeu. From here, you can see the highest mountain on the island, the Pico da Vara. After marveling at the sight, drive along the famous Tronqueira Mountain Trail to one of the oldest parts of the island, ending in Povoação Village.

Start the day by being picked up directly from your hotel, to start your journey. First, we head to Parque da Ribeira dos Caldeirões, one of Nordeste's biggest attractions. This natural park is full of endemic flora and serene spots, and even an iconic waterfall. If you are lucky, you might even be able to spot a Priolo, a bird species that is endemic to this area of the island. Next, we visit the Nordeste parish, that was once named the most flowery county in Europe. After that, we'll stop at three viewpoints that provide amazing views of the Northern Coast, each one different from the other. For lunch, we'll stop at Povoação, a delightful and quaint town, where you'll get to eat at a local restaurant that serves authentic traditional meals. After lunch, come take a stroll through this town and enjoy the relaxing setting. Next, we head to Furnas Village, to visit one of the most requested places there, the 'Caldeiras'. To end the day, bathe in the soothing and therapeutic waters of the Poça da Dona Beija hot springs. Depart from your accommodation and journey along the south coast of São Miguel before heading towards the west side of the island to see one of the 7 wonders of Portugal, the volcanic lakes of sete cidades. From there we will move to the north side of the island to see the beautiful Lagoa do fogo lake. Our Journey continues towards the wonderful waterfalls of Ribeira dos Caldeirões, a very beautiful and quiet Natural Park. Then a stop for a typical Azorean lunch! Finishing Lunch, Furnas Valley is waiting for us to experience its dramatic volcanic landscape. There we can admire the wild viewpoint of the Pico do Ferro for a panoramic view of the valley. Return to the accommodation via the island's north road, and stop at the site of Europe's only tea plantations and tea factory.

Faial da Terra is a small village belonging to Povoação, located in the South East of São Miguel Island. Your walking tour will start with a casual stroll down a steep, narrow road that will you lead to Sanguinho. Sanguinho is a village abandoned since the early 70s and is now undergoing a restoration process. You can walk through this place and see the relics of a time gone by, plus the new modern development that is taking place.  Continue your trail through the dense and lush woods, with many short up and downhill stretches between picturesque vegetation. Proceeding along the walk you will finally reach Salto Do Prego waterfall. Amidst the secluded area and near the cascading water you can have a dip before enjoying a delicious picnic lunch. After regaining energy, the road will take us to various viewpoints on the coast of Nordeste. Among them, we will visit Ponta do Sossego and Vista dos Barcos. These landscapes are especially famous on Instagram. Indeed, the green high cliffs with flowers of every color create beautiful scenery. Let’s explore a place that has been considered the most flower-rich region of all of Europe. Our last stop of the day will be in the Park of Ribeira dos Caldeirões, a nature park full of waterfalls. The biggest waterfall is over 40 meters high and you will have time to contemplate it and absorb these nature’s vibrations.
