Join a walking tour through Porto and discover the heritage of the Romans and Celtics in the city. You will be led by an informative guide.
What to Expect
Meet your guide at the Cathedral and come for a pleasant walk through the old town. Discover the history of the Celtics and the Romans and learn about the heritage of the city of Porto since their times, up to the Middle Ages. Your walk will last about 3 and a half hours and takes you through iconic locations in the city. Recognize the perimeter of the old walls, locate the several different religious orders monasteries and who settled in Porto Medieval. Learn which trades existed previously and how these places have developed ant it’s relevance for maritime expeditions.
You will hear talk of how the old city was surrounded by a wall and contained inside several convents and monasteries with their cloisters and farmland and a river that today is underground. You will see how the city was divided between the Franciscans, Dominicans, Benedictines and Jews and by the way, you will find many other landmarks for which I will also make a brief explanation of its relevance in the city's history. Your tour will end in the Gothic Church of San Francisco.
