What to Expect
Meet in front of the Cleric’s Tower. Your guide will be seated on the stairs and from there you will walk alongside the walls of the city that were dismantled to improve other facilities.
After a brief history about the Celtic, Roman and Moorish occupation and the battles with Castilians, Napoleon and even the civil war, you will understand the development of the city with its many monasteries, 3 walls and Roman vestiges.
Visit the main sites of the city in a simplified tour designed for anyone who wants to enjoy the essential sites in a short amount of time. See the S. Bento train station and learn about its history, the site of a former Benedictine convent. This is also one of the landmarks of the city and one of the most beautiful train stations in the world.
Back on the streets, go up to Serrana café, a place forgotten by many but created by an important architect from the city. Visit the cathedral and the convent of Santa Clara to see the remains of the walls. The tour takes you next to the custom’s house (Casa do Infante) to see Roman mosaics as well as pottery, coins, tiles and an amazing model of the city as it was in the 15th century. The visit ends at about 15:00 at Ribeira Square.
