Full description

Rolling curves, a snaking river and dramatic landscapes that change with the seasons – the Douro Valley is a must-do for wine lovers and foodies.

This full-day tour traces the Douro River from downtown Porto to the wine-making region where terraced vines cling to the hillside.

Meet your guide in the center of Porto and jump in a comfortable minivan for a 90-minute drive upriver. Pause for a coffee break at Peso da Régua before heading to the first of two wineries.

Sip, swirl and sample the region's lesser known wines and world-famous Ports while admiring a panoramic patchwork of vineyards across the valley. Take note as the winemaker shares juicy details and facts about winemaking here.

Around midday, you'll make moves to a local restaurant for a delicious traditional Portuguese lunch. That means free flowing wines and your choice of fish, meat, or a vegetarian dish.

Your journey of tasting the terroir continues into the afternoon at a second vineyard. Here you will uncover the various stages of winemaking and sample some of the Douro's finest Port wine.

Before jumping on a relaxing scenic boat cruise the tour will stop by Pinhão Railway Station, whose walls are decadently decorated with colorful illustrative tiles that depict Douro Valley scenes and the history of Port wine production.

See out the afternoon with an hour-long cruise and enjoy a final glass of Port wine while soaking in a new perspective of the magnificent steep landscape.

On the return journey to Porto the minivan will pull up at a final viewpoint so you snap one last photo of the incredible UNESCO World Heritage listed region.

This was one of the best tours I have done. Our guide Delfina was amazing and her knowledge and information she shared was invaluable. I would highly recommend this to anyone that would like to explore the Duoro river valley.. It is great value for money and gives you a great oversight of what this region has to offer.

Incredible tour. Milena was an amazing, funny, knowledgeable guide and Pedro was a great driver! Felt very safe on very windy mountain roads. The Douro valley is absolutely beautiful. I loved that we sampled wines from a smaller company that I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to try otherwise. Lunch was also delicious and at a very nice restaurant. The river cruise was the perfect way to end the day. Absolutely beautiful. Be prepared for the weather though! It was HOT during our tour and while the van was air conditioned, it was not really strong enough to alleviate most of the heat. Still 100% worth it though even if it’s hot.

A beautiful discovery of the valley in well-chosen areas and places: a large area in the morning and a family area in the afternoon with an introduction to Port wine tasting. The meal was typical, with wines and Porto from the estate. Thanks to Gustavo our guide, benevolent and accessible to all!
