On this Porto day tour you will discover the authentic Portugal and the medieval heritage. Stop at Barcelos and visit the open-air museum and explore the historical center. Enjoy lunch at Ponte de Lima. And visit the coastal town of Viana do Castelo.
What to Expect
The Alto Minho is the true call of the former Portugal, rich and hoary, with magnificent views over green landscapes, with long geological and historical tradition.
Leave your Porto hotel in the morning and travel towords the north of the country by air-conditioned minivan. After a journey of roughly 45 minutes, you’ll arrive in Barcelos, capital of the artcraft. Located in the heart of the Minho region, this city marks the pinnacle of ‘pituresco’ with the famous legend of the rooster and the weekly antique fair held on Thursdays. In Barcelos you visit the open-air museum featuring a 15th-century cross depicting the story of the cockerel, and you explore the historical center with the famous octagonal-shaped church of Senhor da Cruz.
Lunch takes place is Ponte de Lima, a city of Roman origin, and assumed as the oldest Portuguese village, and probably one of the most enchanting. Stop to enjoy Arroz de Sarrabulho, the gastronomic ex-libris of this oldest village, accompanied with local wine.
Next you pay a visit to the beautiful coastal town of Viana do Castelo, which owns one of the most important shipyards. Climb to Santa Luzia Shrine where you can see the best views of the city and visit the Costume Museum, a collection of traditions that characterize the entire northern region of Portugal.
Relax on the drive back to your Porto hotel, arriving in the early evening.
