Full description
Explore one of South Africa's oldest cities on a 2-hour guided walk. Start at Port Elizabeth’s Campanile Memorial, at the entrance to the railway station. Continue to Route 67 and follow a trail that combines both historical and modern-day elements of the culture of the Eastern Cape. It pays tribute to Madiba’s 67 years of service to South Africans. Visit the Donkin Reserve at Belmont Terrace and the old lighthouse. Admire old Victorian churches, newly renovated terraced cottages, and a lighthouse that once guided ships into Algoa Bay. Other attractions include Fort Frederick, City Hall, Market Square, and St. Georges Park, which is the oldest cricket ground in South Africa.

Freddie very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Showed no annoyance that we berthed late due to weather. Was a little uncomfortable being taken into a shop to buy water when we were told street was controlled by Nigerian drug dealers, better to have water on minibus ready.

The guide Freddie Edward was absolutely superb. This was also the case with the guide who showed us around the Campanile. She was called Tammy ( Tamsin) and her enthusiasm and knowledge were incredible. We saw many other places including the City Hall, the former market square, the Donkin Reserve, the Piazza Mosaic and the Voting Line. All explained with enthusiasm by Freddie who was happy to share his knowledge too of everyday life in South Africa.

The city tour of Port Elizabeth was just terrific. My Guide Lee has incredible knowledge of the history of the country, the city and the inhabitants themselves, his interest and knowledge of the 67 artworks of P.E. is impressive. The tour takes place partly on foot and partly in the car. It was more than a "normal" city tour. He has shown me special place of the city. The neighborhood for start-ups, a neighborhood of great restaurants, cafes and bars, the "factory" district and much more. Lee is passionate about his tours. I can highly recommend this.
