What people are saying about Port Douglas
Semi submersible was good to see many thing that would be hard to see just snorkeling (eg stingray, turtles, large shelves of coral). Food was just plain not appetizing. But you get what you pay for. If you snorkel in the beginner area near the ship, the coral looks bleached and the formations and fish are very deep so it’s harder to appreciate their bright colors. If you can venture out a few meters past the beginner area, the reef is shallower and there are more schools of fish and sea life. Staff were mostly professional and helpful except for one, Maki. I hard difficulty with my swim gear and asked Maki if she had any tips and she snapped at me saying “go find someone else to ask.” Then she turned around and walked away. I don’t expect that type of customer service is tolerated by Quicksilver so I would hope that they have discussions addressing her issues.
I really enjoyed my tour of the Daintree rain forest. It was well organised and gave a great overview of this fantastic area. The group were quickly brought together and put at ease by our guide Dan, who did a fantastic job and pitched the tour at exactly the right level. All in all an excellent way to explore the Daintree with a nice combination of walks and a river cruise to see the crocs. Dan also acted above and beyond to step in and rescue a boy ( not part of our group) who had got into difficulty swimming in the Mossman Gourge.
I loved this tour as it really demonstrates the Aboriginal Culture. I learned so much of just how we can live off the land. Nature that we just walk past all can provide hidden remedies that now I have some knowledge of and can share with others. Keeping in mind for survival and connecting with the earth!
I have visited this very place 1989 and I have still pictures in my head from snorkeling around the waters that look like the images on your posters. Unfortunately it is difficult to denie how much the reef and marine live has changed.
Gavin was a great guide & a genuine Aussie character. He brought the Daintree to life & it's importance to world heritage. Everyone must come to experience this important world site before it is lost to our future generations.
