An exceptional day spent delving into the history of Port Arthur and of the extreme hardships encountered by the convicts. Makes one feel so appreciative of our current lifestyle and freedoms experienced. It's hard to imagine how the personnel in charge of managing the convicts could have been so brutal and cruel to their own kind. The restoration program of Port Arthur is to be commended, history and architecture of this type should not be lost to future generations. When wandering through the manicured grounds and gardens and gaze over the water it is hard to imagine the pain and inhumane abuse that must have occurred during the period that Port Arthur operated and a convict prison.

This four was 10/10! It had the perfect amount of guidance vs freedom. Lots of outdoor activity so you were taking in the marvellous views for the entire day. The guide was incredible - didn’t constantly speak so you didn’t have a headache at the end of the day. Just shared stories and information at the perfect time, in the perfect amount. Would 100% recommend this tour.

Overall a good day, though longer than expected. The Get Your Guide sent us to the wrong pick up point but fortunately Clinton, driver/guide, had my mobile and called. The tour includes a walk along the cliff tops as well as some other stops on the way back, so expect to be back in Hobart around 6pm. Clinton was very knowledgeable and kept us entertained with Tassie stories! The Port Arthur site is beautifully kept...our disappointment was that the short guided tour was not longer and did not include a tour of the buildings. (You are left to wander.) The Barracks in Sydney has a wonderful system whereby the audio (headset) is automatically triggered as you enter the rooms...providing a great combination of historical data and personal stories.
