The history is in itself humbling - the scale of the city and destruction is quite breathtaking as it was a big city - i did feel it was over sanitised a bit and the audio was helpful but a pain to return. Take plenty water and maybe a bit of prep before you go so you can either adopt an itinerary or do your own. When next in area i may do the sister city - but still wow!
We decided against organised trips as they all appeared to spend only 2 or 3 hours at Pompeii, getting the train from Sorrento was easy and we spent over 6 hours in Pompeii. The Audio guides were informative and easy to use. There were also longer talks for additional background, ideal for rest stops in a shady corner.
Online collection of ticket was super fast, but had to line up with others for audio guide. Guide is a phone and batteries only meant to last 4 hours - plan a trip back to the booth to swap if you intend to stay the whole day (which unfortunately I didn’t think of until after).
Tickets were fantastic, arrived at Pompeii and went to fast track section and there was no queue, others on our trip who didn’t have the fast track pass had to wait in a huge queue to get in, highly recommend these tickets
