Full description
Join this tour to journey back in time to the height of the Roman empire! Explore the remains and ruins of this ancient city and let your guide or audioguide tell you all about how the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD destroyed the city, killed its inhabitants and buried it under tons of ash.

Spend the afternoon exploring this once-thriving city that was frozen in time by these layers of volcanic ash. Pompeii remained buried under a layer of pumice stones and ash 19 - 23 feet (6 to 7 meters) deep. The city's sudden burial served to protect it for the next 17 centuries from vandalism, looting and the destructive effects of the climate and heavy weather.

The site was lost for about 1,500 years until its rediscovery - the objects, buildings and people beneath the layers have been well-preserved for centuries. Take a walk along these ancient streets for a glimpse into the lives of the Romans. See its ancient houses, bakeries and shops and see what life was like in 79 AD on this unique historical excursion.
