I bought two vouchers online to visit Pompeii from Get Your Guide. We had arranged to meet a private guide at the entrance who showed us where to exchange the vouchers for tickets, which was quick and easy. I would recommend booking a guide in advance as Pompeii is very large and it would be easy to miss the best houses and places to see if making your own way. Our visit was 2 hours and we saw about 25-30%, so you might like to allow longer time but there is little shade and it can get very hot in summer.

Great history spot, we did not get a guide so we were wandering around not learning as much as we would have with a guide. We missed the maps being handed out at the front office but enjoyed looking around, it was especially hot but spots to sit in the shade and a cafe for refreshments

Pompeii is a must! We would never have appreciated the size and scale of it without visiting. I’m glad we just purchased entry tickets as now we’ve been, we know there would have been no way to have fully experienced it on a 2/3 hour organised trip. By just purchasing entry tickets it allowed us to spend the whole day there - and trust me, you need to do this in order to fully emerse yourself in the history.
