Hidden for hundreds of years, after the discovery of Pompeii it became one of the main attractions in the Campania Region. The city has been preserved over the years by the lava which petrified the area. Pompeii was considered one of the most important commercial centers of the area before the disaster. Now, Pompeii is one of the most important UNESCO World Heritage sites.
