Full description

Transport yourself back to Roman times on a guided tour of Pompeii led by an archeologist. Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site for 2 hours with the help of your expert guide, who will take you around the city preserved by volcanic ash from Mount Vesuvius’ eruption in 79 AD. Choose the experience you would like to have, with the choice of either a shared small-group tour or a private tour for your and your group alone. Skip the line when you enter the city at Porta Marina Superiore, one of the ancient city’s 7 gates. Walk the main streets and wander around the Forum, the old heart of the city and the center of public life. From here you can see Mount Vesuvius overlooking the city. Discover highlights such as the basilica (business and legal center), thermal baths, temples, bakery and great Theater of Pompeii. Listen to interesting anecdotes from your archeological guide, who will tell you about people who lived in Pompeii.

Peek at plaster casts of those who were in the city at the time of the eruption. See well-maintained artworks, mosaics, and frescoes and travel back nearly 2000 years. Highlights include the House of the Vetti and the Lupanar Brothel.

Find out how this famous brothel got its name and see its preserved stone beds and frescoes. Get great tips from your guide at the end of the tour about how to spend the rest of your day, or even choose to stay inside the archeological site longer to explore on your own.

Get directions to the Sanctuary Dedicated to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, the local cathedral that is located close to the excavation site. You can also get directed to the Amphitheater and Orto dei Fuggiaschi.

Recommended. My guide is a well-studied archeologist. He can get very deep into the ancient Roman history and explain all kinds of details when asked. During the 2-hour guide, he didn’t stop much & covered about 33% of the current Pompeii with high efficiency and no rush. That’s excellent. Will come back again and hope to explore the remaining 67% of Pompeii.

Our tour was exactly as billed: 6 people (perhaps partly due to early Jan and Omicron) and a highly knowledgeable guide. We met at the front gate a few minutes beforehand, then covered the main sights in the central area of Pompeii and were given recommendations of which others were worthwhile (such as the amphitheater). Other groups were flashier but probably learned less, which is a balance we were happy with. Hard to imagine going wrong here.

The tour is amazing. You will learn about how the Romans lived, their great inventions, you will be able to understand and see evidence from 2000 years ago. The tour lasts 2 hours, enough to visit the most important buildings. The Ancient City is huge and you will need more than one day to see it all. I recommend wear comfortable shoes because there’s a lot of walking.
