This was an excellent tour with an excellent guide. He was extremely knowledgeable and easy to listen to. He brought the places alive and kept everyone’s interest all day. We were exceptionally well looked after for the whole tour including being taken to out train carriage and met as planned in Naples. The journey was therefore stress free both ways. Having a small air conditioned minibus made the other journeys comfortable. Our lunch was delicious although service was a bit slow. However our guide sorted this out. We enjoyed seeing Herculaneum as well as Pompei and hearing about the differences in the two places. The museum at Herculaneum was fascinating. Our guide was a qualified archaeologist and this showed in the details he was telling us. The whole day was extremely interesting and enjoyable and we were well looked after from start to finish.

The high speed train from Rome to Naples and back was seamless with the guidance of the guides. Vincent, our tour guide that met us in Naples and through our visit at Pompeii and the Herculaneum was wonderful! He was so knowledgeable of the history and made the trip very entertaining and educational. We went with our 13 and 16 year olds and they really enjoyed the day! The restaurant for lunch was running a bit slow but the pizza was delicious as well as the tiramisu.

Full description

After checking in at Termini Station, relax and enjoy the views on the scenic ride to Naples. As you get off the train in Naples, meet your local tour guide and head to an air-conditioned coach bound for our first destination: Pompeii.

Explore the archaeological park on a 2-hour walking tour. Experience a world frozen in time as you stroll along the ancient cobblestone streets where well-preserved bakeries, shops, stalls, residences, public baths, and brothels remain.

Then, sink your teeth into an authentic Neapolitan pizza at a pizzeria converted from an antique rail station. After lunch, a short transfer will take you to your second destination.

Unlike Pompeii, Herculaneum was buried under a mixture of ash and mud, which solidified over time to create the perfect protection for the fascinating world left frozen in time beneath it. Walk in the footsteps of the Romans who once called this lost city home with a guide.

At the end of your tour, return to Naples Station for the high-speed train ride back to Rome.
